North Bengal Business Summit on 30 November, 2015 in Siliguri

Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) in association with the Government of West Bengal and West Bengal Industrial Development Corporation Ltd. (WBIDC) organized the North Bengal Business Summit on 30 November, 2015 in Siliguri. The Summit with the theme Enterprise North Bengal – Invest in Development " A shared responsibility" was a platform for the entrepreneurs of the seven Districts of North Bengal, namely Malda, Uttar Dinajpur, DakhsinDinajpur, Darjeeling, Jalpaiguri, Alipurduar and Coochbehar and from the neighboring countries of Bangladesh, Bhutan and Nepal. The entrepreneurs discussed on joint business potential and highlighted issues which need attention for smooth business propagation across the region. Prior to the North Bengal Business Summit, extensive ground work was undertaken in the seven districts of North Bengal and the neighboring countries to understand the factorsof necessary for smooth business. Around 42 international delegations participated in the North Bengal Business Summit, with an overall participation of 365 delegates in the entire event.

Dr Amit Mitra, Hon'ble Minister of Finance & Excise, Commerce & Industries, PE, IR and Information Technology & Electronics, Government of West Bengal, graced the North Bengal BusinessSummit.

WBIDC has been working to support entrepreneurs in West Bengal in setting up industries through facilitation, financing, disbursing incentives and by setting up of Industrial Parks. It is assisting in the expeditious and orderly establishment, growth and development of industries in the North Bengal. North Bengal Business Summit, the 4th Edition of North Bengal Conclave was a similar exercise to create awareness among the entrepreneurs to take advantage of the benefits on offer in the State. The Government of West Bengal is putting a lot of stress for the growth of industry in North Bengal moving beyond the traditional strengths of tea, timber and tourism and focusing in horticulture, health, education, IT and BPO etc which is potentially a large employment generator for the population of North Bengal.

The highlight of theSummit, industrial strengths of the seven districts were on exhibition. The neighbouring countries of Bangladesh, Bhutan and Nepal also displayed their local products. The inaugural session saw the announcement of the upcoming industrial parks and several tourism projects in North Bengal. The Summit held panel discussions on Cross Border Tourism & Tourism potential in North Bengal and Ease of Doing Business and strengthening ties between the neighboring countries – Bangladesh Bhutan and Nepal. The panel discussion on tourism potential focused on developing the number of tourism assets in North Bengal and the surrounding regions around a single vision with which tourists can relate to. The session on ease of doing business stressed on several factors such as establishing integrated land custom stations at the check post with electronic verificationfacilities, ensuring easier transit procedures andfacilitating foreign exchange services for travelers.

The North Bengal Business Summit gave an enormous networking opportunity among the entrepreneurs of the seven districts as well as with those of the neighboring countries.
